Is the operator on Dennis' payroll? That would explain a lot.
Hell, that block would have to be broken down into smaller bits to go through any crusher. Are they tipping them as-is?
Keep up the good work. I'll try to throw you a bone on some of my projects if possible.

Sorry, Trans, my man! I felt this issue was just too important to let slip by (as my business has been affected very negatively by the gumbymint as well). I did post it anonymously... however, it doesn't take a genius to figure out it was you, as you are the only trucker that I know of on the boards. And we're glad to have you here! Is the labour action still on for tomorrow in Hamilton and at TCD...?? It would be great to see TCD shut down for a day or two with a big trucker blockade... and in town, well THAT will be fun!! Am recommending that wifey take the ferry into Town tomorrow. How about blockading a couple of the job sites that use the big TTs illegally...?

How about blocking Ewart's motorcade from leaving his house in the morning? It would only take a truck or two...leaving more trucks to block the parking lot outside parliament, etc.! If you're gonna do it you might as well piss him off!

If you're gonna do it you might as well piss him off! Whilst I agree with the frustrations and misconduct and transgressions, I don't think that some of the comments made or their implication will help matters. Yes a show of strength and a convoy of trucks is a great idea, done within the law. But to block access and obstruct is not. That would be complete 'civil disobedience'. Having to involve the police in attending all these incidents would not accomplish much but to deplete their presence elswhere. Being organised and being 'wild cat' are two differant things. Plus, one can get arrested for obstruction et al. Let calmer heads prevail because from what I read and hear ( yes I do )....the complainants in this situation are mostly level headed men and hard working family suppliers. That said, rise above and you will prevail in time. 2008.

I'm with 2008 on this one: the last thing that the truckers want to do is piss off Joe Public by staging scenes reminiscent of the convoys that the taxi drivers carried out a few years back to protest the introduction of GPS. Don't stop ordinary Bermudians from going about their daily business, because the taxi drivers found out that it doesn't exactly get people on your side.

Good points, loki and 2K8 (!)... you don't want to piss off Joe Public too much. But you still want to make "an impression" on the Minister so that he changes his mind... and everyone HATES TCD!... so... well, you know the rest.

I disagree.
Dr. Brown and Mr. DeSilva have shown that they have no interest in following the law. For a Labour Government to play games like this only shows just how out of touch with their roots they are.
For me, I think that civil disobedience is called for now. But it has to be constant. It can't just be one instance of disobedience. It HAS to be an ongoing movement, showing not only the administration, but the Bermudian public as well, just how dissatisfied with the treatment they are.
History has shown that time won't help. Silence won't help. Silence becomes equated with assent.
It's time to stand up.
As for arrest for obstruction, I think it would be, or at least could be argued down to, a parking violation. "OOPS! I didn't know I couldn't park here. Sorry!"
Lokes,
I think what was suggested was more a move to block a certain driveway, "by accident", rather than clogging the roads.
Hell, I'd even pay the $50 parking ticket for that!

"In times of trouble, we will remember the silence of our friends more than the words of our enemies." MLK jr.
Just thought that needed to be said after UE's comment. He's right. Silence implies assent. Politicians are the dumbest people on the planet. They'll ONLY respond to things that they think make them more unpopular. Since there isn't a hope in hell of voting them out, you have to make them think that you won't vote them in next time.
Also, 2K8 and Loki, are there not laws that allow for peaceful protest? I think that most people are unaware of the blatant unfairness that's going on in transport. While I might be pissed off with a delay due to a trucker protest convoy, I would be sympathetic to their cause.
Give the public a little more credit there. Maybe we can take up a collection for their parking fines?

Don't get me wrong: I'm not suggesting for a second that they shouldn't protest or carry out some form of direct action, but it needs to be focused in a way that minimizes the impact for the general public: drive trucks onto the lawn of the Cabinet Office; drive around and around the driveway of the House Of Assembly; have some rather convenient 'breakdowns' in front of certain people's driveways. Be a complete pain in the ass and distraction to the right people, but I think that some mass inconvenience of the general public is the wrong way to go.

People don't realize that this has been going for about four years on and off. The two biggest offenders are Rodrigues Trucking & Excavating (bought out by M & M construction) & Island Construction. Rodrigues hauls rubble to Laughlands in thier two TT Dumpsters, crushes it into sand and screenings... then transports the finished product to thier yard behind Noah's Ark. Completely illegal... this has been going on for about two years now... before that they where crushing material in Ferry Reach St. George's for about 2 years and transporting it to thier yard. Now that M & M has bought the company they are using the two TT's for everything. Island Construction uses thier two to transport screenings and sand from thier quarry at Bailey's Bay to SAL Southampton for sale & readymix concrete use. These roll everyday. Once again illegal because these products can fit in a Heavy Truck. Peter Brombey spoke out against the use of TT dumpsters on Everst talk show and was heard doing so by Zane Desilva's son. Zane's son called and said that people are envious of them because they have found an innovative (illegal) way to make more money. Since this happened a couple of weeks ago Island Construction have refused to load Peter's three trucks at thier Quarry... which they have the right to do. You see things like this is the reason that we have not spoken out before. Island Construction, D & J, Corriea etc. are breaking the law but they are also the companies that provide us with materials and work. So you see if you are banned from these places you might as well close up shop. I also have the feeling that if we piss of the Premier enough TCD will suddenly put a ban on new permits and start investigating individuals that they feel are not making full use of thier permits. At least that is what they will claim when they start pulling peoples permits ( which they have the right to do if they feel you are not using it). Most likely the people that make the most noise will find themselves without a pot to piss in because Dr. Brown dosen't like to be challenged

Some valid points Ren Man. My comments take away nothing from what UE said. I never said be humble or silent too assent. And yes there are laws for peaceful protest, obtainable from the Deputy Governors Office via a permit for something of this nature. Then again, anyone and all can do certain things without a "Permit". I am sympathetic to their cause and am behind them 100%. As for the "blatant unfairness thats going on in transport", well, that applies to other Ministries and Government Departments and civilian owned and private as well. Don't get me wrong. As for the "Obstruction" in my previous post I was reffering too not the blockage of passage per sey but as was indicated in previous posts about "Blocking" and impediment of right of way for a period. If one refused to move the vehicle then they could be arrested for obstructing an Officer in the execution of his duty. As for the $50 fine, well thats fine. Just more time consumed by Officers moving on people/truckers for another one to take their place and creating more friction. The more time spent playing games with Government is loss on all the truckers and workers and other related exercises like..where Joe? I need some stuff hauled off and he was supposed to be here yesterday. It's all relative. Common sense should prevail here and I hope it will. As for "the labour government", that is neither here nor there in my view. They are the Government as represented by their motto, the Progressive Labour Party. Just because certain elements fit under this venue as to say is ..well yah know. 2008 [Moderator] 2008... you have GOT to learn how to quote properly!!!

Well.... I was just watching the ZBM news... the Government had 24hrs from noon Monday to come back with a reply. They have asked for more time to examine the facts... LMAOOOO. What is to examine? They were presented with the FACTS. TT Dumpsters are operating ILLEGALY (FACT). They have had almost four years to sort this out. Be prepared for some type of action RUSH HOUR TOMORROW!
