I received this PM early this morning... and I post it here for your edification. The writer may comment on it in due course, but for now must remain anonymous....
This is a pathetic performance from our Country's "leader!"Got home a lil while ago from a meeting of the General Truckers Assocation. Had to sit off for a and collect my thoughts for a bit. A presentation was made by the reps of the assocation yesterday to the Preimer face to face explaining how the use of TT dumpsters is illegal under the motorcar act. They are for hauling only demo rubble (concrete etc.) not for everday use as they currently are taking money away from the General trucker. You know what Brown said? He never gave permission for them to operate in this way.... it was a previous minister (passing the buck) but he will not stop it. Zane Desilva was there and produced a document that he said was proof that in 1992 then Transport Minister ****** Marshall ( can't remember the name. Ed: Ralph, UBP) gave permission to use them in this way. The rep from the association reached across the table for the doc but Zane quickly snatched it up... never letting anyone read it! What Bullshit!!! Members have asked the former Minister (who is in his 80's) if he ever approved such a thing to which he replied NEVER!!! When we said that this is illegal and must be stopped Brown replied that he will see us in court... and implied that we will never win because he will use our money (taxes) against us!!! The situation was handed off to Derek Burgess who is to give a reply within 24hrs (tomorrow 12pm) if what is said is not satisfactory action will be taken early wed morning (trucks blocking up town, TCD etc.) Another issue on the table is the TCD Trucks Advisory Board who make up all the rules etc. has 12 members... but none of them truckers lol. I have seen first hand just what the premier is made of.... the outlook is not good for Bermuda!!

Quite obvious who the 'author' is Mysty. Thats some startling info though, if it is accurate.
There seems to be an attitude on confrontation when the good Dr. is around and if Zane did behave in this manner it only reinforces my belief that most of the MP's et al feel safe or guarded and protected by this man.
My two cents.

More proof that Brown is a carpetbagger by definition. What an asshole!! He first passes the buck claiming that Ralph Marshall gave permission for these huge, oversize TTs to haul illegal loads. What nonsense! These TTs weren't even on the Island way back then. Then Desilva grabs the document, apparently giving HIM and his buddies permission to illegally use the TTs, so no one can check it out. Another asshole! Another fake document. And when all that doesn't appease the good independent truckers... Brown says that he will see them in court!! This is OUR Premiere who is supposed to protect the rights of ordinary Bermudians... instead he protects the rights of his elite WHITE friends like Desilva! Who own non-union construction firms, no less. And Doorman Burgess couldn't care less! What a guy! What a union! What a a bunch of jokers fuck-ups! Somehow, I have a feeling the the Brown One is gonna loose this one -- and it won't be in court! All I know, is that my wife is gonna take the Ferry into Hamilton tomorrow... while WE ALL encourage our independent trucker friends to KICK SOME ASS in Town and at TCD tomorrow. Clog the place up for a few hours... that will send a message... others will follow in your footsteps. Someone has to be first.... Only in Bermuda would the TCD Trucks Committee NOT have any truckers on it. THAT's gotta change too!!! I seriously hope that that Brown loses his Party's leadership next week -- for his OWN good! Cause next year ain't gonna be pleasant for the plp under Dr Brown or for Dr Brown... the PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!! THE PEOPLE WILL SPEAK OUT!!

BOING!! I got it! Independent truckers are not getting the business because: a) They don't have large enough trucks, so it is more expensive to use them. But they aren't allowed to import TT Trucks in the first place, that's only for the 'Big Boys.' b) They are not pleased with Dr Brown's response to their request that TCD must follow their own Laws, so Brown has 'cut them off.' If you don't agree with the Brown One, you're outta here! c) They are not kicking back 10% to 'ol 10% Brown, d) All of the above.

No argument here. He first passes the buck claiming that Ralph Marshall gave permission for these huge, oversize TTs to haul illegal loads. What nonsense! These TTs weren't even on the Island way back then. Actually, those tipping trailers were on island then. I actually specified them for a project analysis I was working on for W&E around that time. Island and D&J were the only ones who had them at that time. However, there were the same rules in place then that Tranz talks about now. AFAIK, those rules haven't changed, but are just ignored. Much like the restricted times of heavy vehicle operation (not supposed to be on the roads from 0730 to 0930 and from 1600 to 1800, IIRC). Cause next year ain't gonna be pleasant for the plp under Dr Brown or for Dr Brown... the PEOPLE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!! THE PEOPLE WILL SPEAK OUT!! Nothing will change. Ever. We have at least another 15 years of the crap, until those who've grown up entirely under the PLP reach the point of frustration with them, and boot them out. Look at every other immature country in the world where people are pissed off at their government. It's a generational gap until there's change.

I have seen first hand just what the premier is made of.... the outlook is not good for Bermuda!! Damn.... I sent this to a couple of people last night as I wanted to keep it on the low a lil but seeing as it's in the Royal Gazette today what the heck. http://www.royalgazette.com/siftology.royalgazette/Article/article.jsp?articleId=7d8aaaf30030003§ionId=60The article pretty much backs up what I said... the Minister did not give them permission... I believe he must know it's illegal but refuses to stop the Dumpsters. What does that say about our Premier? This is all coming to a head now because jobs are starting to dry up and the effects of these 20 Dumpsters is really hitting home. There are Approx 300 HCH trucks on the road and If 20 dumpsters can do the work of 100 trucks you can see that it really is a big deal. Another fun fact for you. Back in 1998 there where under 200 HCH trucks on the road but since the PLP has been in power that has swelled to over 300. Basically flooding the market with trucks that are all fighting for a peice of the same shrinking pie. Also TCD used to issue you a permit for free back then but now they cost $80,000 a pop. hmmmmm...

See this is where I get confused.
It was stated earlier that work was available for trucks at Club Med yet no-one wants to work there for fear of damage to the dump body. Is that not what trucks are supposed to be used for?
It is also stated that dumpsters can be used to haul demolition material but they are illegal. Which is correct?

AFAIK Jimmy, the law states that the dumpsters are only supposed to be used on jobs that HC trucks cannot do.
I think the damage to the truck bodies might have more to do with careless loader operators than the materials in question. Your average HC truck has a load capacity of 6 tonnes. The average trailer is 30 tonnes, but can go to 100 tonnes with multiple axles. I would think that there are few, if any, pieces of rubble that even approach the 6 tonne limit. Heavily reinforced concrete would be about 70 cubic feet to weigh that much, or about three yards.

The rubble from Club Med is High Strength concrete with rod throughout.... I took a few loads but the amount of damage that would be caused form weeks and weeks of steady abuse would cost more to repair than what I would be paid for the job. I would probably need to have a new dump body made approx $15000 lol. We are not complaining about the TT Dumpsters being used for this as that is what they are designed for. The complaint is that TT Dumpsters are being used to Haul sand, screening, agricultural waste, soil and soft limestone rubble daily (our jobs) which is completly outside of ther remit. They are to be used for Huge Building Demolition and after that is finished the trailers must be parked until the next job arises. I mean really Jimmy... what do you think would happen if an excavator droped a piece of concrete the size of a A class car in the back of my truck? It would probably knock the sides or the headboard right off!!! Further... why have 300 HCH trucks on the road and then allow TT Dumpsters to steal the work?

But if truck drivers are not willing to work at Club Med, how should all the rubble be moved?
I'm trying not to pick a fight here, more playing Devils Advocate to get a better understanding.
The economy is shrinking, and construction is generally one of the first industries to feel the pinch.

Seems you already answered my questions, but I agree that there are too many trucks on the road. In boom times business's and equipment multiply, but when the shit hits the fan...........we all suffer.

Alright Tranz. Generally reinforced concrete weighs 185 lb/cu.ft, so that's what I based my calcs on. If they haven't broken down the pieces to manageable sizes of approximately 1 cu. yd, then that's a problem. An A class car would be about 4 cu.yds, which is over your limit, plus as a unitary load, even if it was less than 6 tonnes, it would still exceed your truck's design criteria as it is not able to be evenly distributed.
I'm with you on the other issues, which are part and parcel to the problem to begin with.
Have a fuzzy on me for keeping your head up.

That block on top would be about 70 cubic feet, so that's your limit already.
No wonder you're not doing it.
